EFCC arrests 14 ‘vote-buyers,’ intercepts N11mn cash, impounds 2 vehicles

OPERATIVES of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) say they arrested 14 suspected vote-buyers in the course of last weekend’s off-season governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states.
They say the incidents occured in Otueke, and Adawari playgrounds both in Bayelsa State and at various other polling units in Imo and Kogi states.
Specifically, the EFCC says that suspects were arrested on Saturday, November 11, 2023 in “intelligence-driven operations” that commenced several days before the governorship elections in the three states.
Also, it says, a total sum of N11,040,000 comprising N9,310,000 was intercepted from suspected vote-buyers and sellers in Bayelsa and another N1,730,000 from electoral fraud suspects across Imo State.
Meanwhile, two vehicles were taken from the suspects who would be charged in court on conclusion of investigations.
