8 soldiers, policemen, others burnt by bandits in Imo

InNo less than eight security operatives, comprising soldiers, policemen and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel have just been killed by gunmen in Imo State.
On Tuesday morning, Umualumaku community of Ehime-Mbano local government area was thrown into panic in the wake of the gruesome murder of the securitymen.
Reports say a joint security taskforce team, moving in two security trucks, was ambushed and the vehicles set ablaze by the attackers.
None of them survived as they were burnt inside their operational vehicles.
A security operative in Owerri who doesn’t want to be named says that reinforcement teams had been sent to the scene, to hunt and apprehend suspects and evacuate the corpses of the slain security operatives.
A resident in the community who also did not want to reveal his identity for security reasons, said that he saw the security agents a few minutes before they were set ablaze.
Another in Umuelemai told CentralNews that the entire Umualumoke is now like a war zone, with wide-spread fears that military reprisal attacks/arrests could ensue.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the police in the state, Henry Okoye, confirmed the development but asked for time to get the full details of the horrible incident.
