Enyimba take shine off Akwa Utd in Uyo

It ended 3-1 in favour of Enyimba. It was the pre-season friendly ahead of the 2023/24 football season, in which Akwa United took on Enyimba, the reigning Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions.

Inside the Uyo Township Stadium, Wednesday afternoon, the Aba Elephants were already 3 goals up within the first 34 minutes of the encounter arranged as a test-run to prepare the two teams for the 2023–24 NPFL season.

Enyimba will participate in the CAF Champions League qualifiers against Libyan side Al Ahli in Benghazi later this month and Akwa United’s newly-appointed head coach, Fatai Osho, was looking to assess the readiness of his newly-recruited players for the upcoming season.

The “Promise Keepers,” as the Uyo lads are known, had a disappointing outing last season but confidence was not immediately reinforced when Enyimba literally went on the rampage, slamming home three goals within only a half-hour+ before the home crowd.
